Ever since my kids were little, I always told them safety comes first in everything we do, including our playtime. With the holiday season upon us, I’m in the stores or on the internet trying to fulfill the ever-growing wish list of gifts for the young and old in my life, and I’m sure you are too! An important thing to consider when buying gifts for children, however, is the safety of their toys. Gifts are such a fun tradition around the holidays, so we have some tips to help you have a safe, healthy holiday season.
** Try to avoid toys with particularly small parts which may be ingested. Bigger toys like stuffed animals and coloring books can be safer for small children.
**Toys with magnets, if ingested, can wreak havoc on kids’ bodies. Check toys for these kinds of hazards!
**Follow the age labels on toys. They are designed to prevent any accidents among children and can help to guide you in the right direction.
**Avoid toys with strings, straps, or plastic which could strangle or suffocate a child.
**If in doubt, check with pediatricians or parents of young children on what is safe for them to receive.
Have a safe and happy holiday season!
